The Power of God

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God."

I Corinthians 1:18

The power of God.

Have you ever contemplated that? The POWER of God.

His power has created the earth, the sun, the moon and the stars.
His power has created man and woman on continents near and far.
His power has parted seas and made the lame to walk.
His power has raised the dead and allowed the mute to talk.

His power has led a people who chose to wander forty years.
His power has taught a lesson through a woman and her tears.

His power has broken through the heavens and lived with us on earth.

His power has knitted our inmost beings and given our life its worth.

His power was tested 40 days and for 40 days He did not fail.

His power has rescued us from ourselves and beaten back the wrath of hell.

His power has taken him down a road and up upon a cross to die.

His power has reached down to me on earth and listened as I cry.

His power has not been broken and in the battle he will always win.
His power has not been emptied and with it He will return again.
His power is full of love and of mercy and of grace.

His power is open to anyone who wholly seeks His face.

His power came as an infant and for 33 years on this land He trod.

Coming, He opened up the door to Heaven and THAT is the power of God.

He can set us free, give us a clear conscience, fill us with joy and restore life into our dry bones. I urge you to call on the power of God today to lead you, guide you and make you who He wants you to be. If you don't know what that means, I will be happy to explain it further, just leave me a comment!

Blessings to you all today!

What I Wore Wednesday

It is Wednesday again. Linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy. We do not post ourselves in our clothes to be vain...but in an attempt to keep us from staying in our sweats all day every day.

I went to a conference in Atlanta called Teach Like a Rockstar. I thought I was slightly nervous thinking I would have to dance and sing but I did not. BEST conference ever though!!! If you are a teacher, check it out when it is in your neck of the woods! The instructor called me Punky Brewster!

This was just another day at school and I ditched the belt about ten minutes into my day!

Somehow I missed Saturday and Sunday. Not sure how that happened. So here is Monday. I had a Leadership class to attend and a presentation to make. I don't look very business like or presentation giver like...but oh well. Glad it is over regardless of whether I fit the part or not.
Because I was home later in the morning (did not have to be in class as early as I have to be at school normally) I was able to get Caroline up and dressed...she jumped in the picture with me.
She is wearing:
shirt: Justice
skirt: Gap
leggings: Hanna Anderson (from Costco)
Boots: Justice

This was day two of Leadership and raining so I threw on a hat. I changed out the pin that came with it and put one of Lindsey's pin on it.

Hope everyone is having a super week. We are still in the middle of our big THIRST conference at our church and God is kicking my tail. I am exhausted but I have learned a lot!!! I will be sharing more on that later.

Lots of love!

We have had completed one day of our big conference at church called Thirst. It is a group of people who are a part of Life Action Ministry who give up their lives for a year and travel around the country putting on these life changing conferences. It is amazing.

I have been thinking a lot about my thirst thirsty am I for the things of God? I SAY I am thirsty, but do my actions coincide with that?

It's like my complaints about my appearance. I am very outspoken about not liking how I look right now but do I get up and do anything about it? Let me answer that for you. No. Sure it has been unreasonably cold here in the south, complete with buckets of snow and ice. But does that mean that the treadmill downstairs in my basement doesn't work? Let me answer that for you. Uhm, no.

I can SAY I want to be close to God. I can SAY I want to hear His voice. I can SAY I love Him more than anything else...but do I? I am busy...just like many of you are. Life has a way of taking over our life, doesn't it? Work, school, homework, meal preparations, practices to shuttle back and forth to, weekend activities, date nights (what are those?!), time with friends...we fill up our calendars with life and find at the end of the day/week/month we have not had time for God. But I will admit there are many times, even with the busyness of the day that I choose to veg out in front of the TV to "relax" before I go to bed. I could use that time to hang out with the Creator of the Universe. I could cut some non-essentials out of my life, but I don't. I could pray more, listen more and talk less.

I have to be deliberate in my time with Him. I do want to hear His voice...but I have to clear my mind and get away from the pull of the world in order to do that. I am thirsty for Him to fill my cup. And I want it to overflow...

Are you thirsty for Him. Go spend some time with Him. He is waiting. I know, because He has been waiting for me.

What I Wore Wednesday

I am hoping I can do my fellow WIWW participants justice this least better than last week. But I feel I should put in a Public Service Announcement: we were out of school (and work for me) last week unexpectedly for snow...please keep that in mind as you go through my pictures and please keep your hands and feet on top of the keyboard at all times. Thank you and enjoy the show. :)

Our roads were still pretty icy on Wednesday but we were going stir crazy. So Mark offered to put us in his four wheel drive vehicle and take us to dinner. We were ecstatic!!!!

The roads were better on Thursday so we took our life in our hands and went to see a movie! It was GREAT to get out of the house...
Friday, I had no willpower to leave the house (though I did shower), there was nothing open for us to go to and no new movies for us to partake in. I debated even showing these pictures, but it is the one day I really tried to take pictures without the camera in my face and I did not want to disappoint Kristin!!!
Saturday was Teacher Appreciation Day at the local Aquarium so we jumped at some free admission and headed out. Please ignore the fully folded laundry baskets behind me. Kristin, I tried but I reverted back to my favorite position...behind the camera, winking at you!
Oh look...laundry baskets...still there! This was church, grocery store, dinner and watching my beloved Tarheels get pounded by the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech. :(
Same baskets, different that is pathetic. :) Back to work was so hard to get up...I am just glad I remembered to take a picture. Maybe tomorrow I will remember to move the baskets before the picture! :)

I am linking up with The Pleated Poppy. Y'all link up too!

It's The End of The World As We Know It

Today is going to rock my world!

After Christmas break, I worked for four days.

Then the weekend came. That Saturday was full of basketball games and dinner with friends.

Sunday we went to church. Sunday night the blizzard hit (blizzard is relative to the area of the country you live in...for the south blizzard = more than 1/2 inch of snow). Incidentally, we had 8.5 inches of snow so that was like a multi-blizzard!

Cue the two snow plows we have in town and you get main roads passable and back roads-- sheets of ice. Sheets of ice = no school.

We had ZERO school last week. So let me recap...Christmas break...16 days four 6 more back to work!

I will be in the fetal position by 11am this morning!

Nevertheless, I am off. You can pray for me if you feel led...but you may want to pray more for the poor children who have to come back today as well.

Happy Tuesday!

A small glimpse of our mental state

I would have totally added these to yesterday's post if I had seen them in time...but since I didn't here you go. Pictures that tell it all for the great state of Georgia. Sun, sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me...

I don't know if the words are blurry to you like they are to me (could be my state of mind) but if you click on the picture below a clearer version pops up! :)
And just think....this is day 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tuesday, the forecast says it is gonna be 52...I am busting out my flip flops!

I don't know if you have heard or not but it snowed in the south on Sunday. The snow storm was so bad that it even shut down the major city of Atlanta. Yeah...Atlanta! I know. Crazy, right? Well, can you imagine the poor smaller cities and towns around Atlanta...they must have come to a standstill.

I have it from a great source that those towns actually did come to a standstill...I trust that source completely. She I have been stuck in my house since Sunday! WITH MY KIDS!!!!!! :)

I think I am getting house know like bed sores only they are caused by the whole house and being trapped here!

Here are some pictures of our snow:

We have been playing in the snow...we have been watching movies...we have been playing in the snow...we have been watching know...random per view should really release lots of kids movies to the regions snowed in because we moms are dying here!!!!!!! Funny sidebar: both my mom and anonymous called me before the blizzard (ha!) to ask me if I had enough popcorn and hot that serious blizzard food? We did...and thankfully on the popcorn front since we have been watching some serious movies.

But we have tired of the electronics in the house and so last night, Caroline boycotted TV for Barbies....
Will grabbed a BOOK (yes, a book) and chose to read instead of watch basketball (Mark, however, you see in the background has had to work all week --- he has four wheel drive --- and so he went for the TV) picture of me but I was reading as well. :) It is a sad state of affairs when we ditch the TV for education...we have obviously been cooped up way too long! :)
Mark did take us out last night for dinner because me and the kids were starting to talk in secret code and hand motions and I think quite frankly we were scaring him and I found this sign and thought of myself, my sister Leigh Ann, my mom, my dad and maybe my brother but I can't remember if he gave coffee up because of heartburn!
I think I am going to live on the edge today and get in my minivan with my two kids and in our secret language we are going to plan a day out of the house...because if we don't, I think we might actually go crazy.

What I Wore Wednesday

OH MY! Snow, snow everywhere. I know that for those of you from snowy states, you are laughing at us southerners, and I am ok with that. We are not used to all. And our city has like maybe 2 snow getting out after almost 9 inches of snow still has not happened. We have, however, kept the power on and that, my friends, is a modern day miracle! Here is a picture of my car and front yard the morning after the big snow.

Now onto WIWW.
I love this new top. I got a gift certificate from Chicos for Christmas. That store is expensive and I probably would not have gone in there without the gift card...but I am glad I did.
Friday is jeans day if you wear school spirit wear. I hate that I can't wear what I want with jeans, but it was worth it to wear jeans. Not much to look sorry.
Both kids had basketball on Saturday (which, incidentally, will be my next 9 Saturdays as well). Comfort was key as well as warmth--apparently heat is not something the gyms pay for on Saturdays...brrrr!
I missed Sunday...don't know how/why. Sunday night the snow came hard and fast. At midnight, my snow-kid husband was out sledding in it...such fun. We had no school Monday so comfort was my MO!
I wore my cool new hat out to play in the snow...and loved it. I even got complimented while throwing snow balls with neighbors! Thanks April!
Once my kids decided they wanted to venture out into the snow (you would DIE laughing if I told you how I kept their feet warm and dry...) I had to layer I grabbed some of Mark's clothes and off we went.
More snow and no school...again! The outfit above was repeated when we went sledding with the neighbors but underneath, this is what I looked like. Hats are my new best friend since I got my hair cut and the layers are killing me. I feel like an 80's rocker...
I leave a lot to be desired...sorry! Snow brings out the warm, comfy clothes...

Happy Wednesday...and link up...I want to see what you have on!

We are having a huge, amazing conference at our church at the end of this month. It is called THIRST and we are believing that it is going to rock our socks off. Our pastor showed us on Sunday how the year has been mapped out for God to do amazing things in our church if we are open and willing.

Hearts are already changing. God is working to prepare us for Thirst.

And wouldn't you know it...when God wants big things to happen the enemy begins to attack. And so he has. The first part of John 10:10 says that he "comes to steal and kill and destroy." He plays dirty. He steals hope, kills joy and destroys dreams. He is mean. The meanest of mean.

What does mean, well, uhm, mean?

The Definition of Mean: Cruel, spiteful or malicious
Cruel: causing or inflicting pain with pity
Spiteful: vindictive
Malicious: motivated by wrongful, vicious, or mischievous purposes

I always used that word nonchalantly. Until I looked it up and broke it apart. Mean is awful. Mean is hurtful down to the core. Mean can break your heart.

But Mean has been defeated. Mean has already lost the battle.

You see the first part of John 10:10 may describe that mean thief, but the second part? Oh the second part! It says, "...I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." When Jesus came and took our place on a cruel cross, He took away the power from Mean. He has given us life abundantly and as a bonus, He has given us joy and grace and mercy.

So, now, when Mean starts to rear his ugly head, I remember that I am His child and He is all about protecting me. He reminds me, "...greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world." (1 John 4:4)

So, take a hike Mean...I am too busy living abundantly to be bothered by you.

What I Wore and a Possible Giveaway and a Guest!

We had a great last week of vacation. I am sad it is over.

I did not have the energy or social calendar to get dressed in anything other than sweats on Wednesday and Thursday. I am not sure why...but there you have it. I am not proud of it, just honest!

Friday we went to the Georgia Dome-AGAIN. To watch South Carolina lose AGAIN. It was really not as much fun as it sounds. :)

Now, Caroline...she had it all going on...she picked her outfit out on Thursday. She said, and I quote, "I want to sparkle from head to toe." She totally rocked it, don't you think?
Saturday I took the kids to see "Gulliver's Travels"...I recommend waiting for the DVD. My kids thoroughly enjoyed though. and then I went shopping. I don't usually go shopping on Sunday because I usually take a nap...but in the picture on the left you see those brown boots? Well, Mark told me they look like elf shoes. I don't think they look like elf shoes but he won't quit about them. I thought they might grow on him but they haven't. So, I say, if you want them, let me know. size 8.5.
Monday was my last day of break. (are you weeping with me) The kids and I kept it low key and went and bought "Despicable Me" and hung out at home, eating popcorn and goofing off. And those boots in the picture? My new ones I found on Sunday. And Mark's comment? "They are kinda cowboyish, huh?" So I guess the million dollar question is which is better--elf or cowboy? :)
I started back to work...yuck! I wish this time was not already here but it will be good to be back in a routine (it will, won't it?). ;)

I got my hair cut last night and my friend Julie and I were talking about WIWW and she was saying something to the effect of, "I think I am addicted to WIWW! I can't wait for Wednesday each week!" I convinced her to let me take her picture...thanks Julie!

I am linking up with Lindsey at The Pleated Poppy!

Lessons in a Dream

I had a strange dream the other night. This is what I remember of it.

It was the middle of the night (of course). The house started shaking. Pictures were crashing to the floor, furniture was falling over and I heard screaming in the distance. My first thought was earthquake--but I live in Georgia (there was that time though when we had an earthquake in GA about 7 years ago...)...anyway, I get up and look out the window. The houses across the street from me are falling into a huge sinkhole. They are disappearing as if some gargantuan monster is eating them for a bedtime snack. (you got the picture, right?). I am scared--to my core. But we grab the kids and run to the basement...out the back door and through the woods...away from the sinkhole.

I woke up terrified.

I pondered the dream and after getting over the sheer terror of it all, I kinda forgot about it. I started thinking about it again though after church. Our pastor talked about getting more of Christ in 2011 and giving more of myself to Christ in 2011. The dream came back to me.

I thought about that sinkhole. It is like life all around me. There are so many distractions that keep me from focusing on Christ. They suck me in and destroy everything I have tried to build and I can't get out of it no matter how hard I try. But God is standing at the top of that sinkhole, arm outstretched, waiting for me to grab His hand so He can pull me to safety. Do I reach out and take it? Or do I try to selfishly figure out my own way out?

In 2011, I want to trust Him more and focus on the world less.

What about you?

Random New Year Post

I am so late to wish everyone a new year. And I missed my 2 year blogaversary. How sad is that?

Well, Saturday was the day and I was recovering. I woke up with a headache. Now, I had not been drinking on NYE...I was just dumb enough to go see South Carolina (hubby's team) play in the Chickfila Bowl in Atlanta. It was a BAD game with bad results for him and I was exhausted Saturday morning and it was I forgot about my blogaversary.

Please forgive me.

I am currently in bed, relaxing on my last day of sad. It really should be a crime to have to go back to work after a vacation.

Here are some photos from the weekend. I tried to upload one of Caroline hiding at the game, but I took it upside down...then I fixed it when I uploaded it to my computer but when I try to put it on my blog, it goes back to upside down. Weird.

This is South Carolina running out at the beginning of the game...this is the best they looked all night.

This is me embarrassing Lynn at Pappasita's. She is still my friend, in case you are wondering. Mainly because her team won, not because she forgives me for asking them to put the large sombrero on her head and scream out her age in front of a full restaurant!
So, happy 2011 to you all! I promise the rest of my posts will probably be better than this one!
