InstaFriday #2

It is Instafriday thanks to Jeannett. I had lots of fun taking pictures on my phone in anticipation of this post!!!!

We were heading out to dinner and Caroline did not want to leave without "a flower thingie"(thanks Lindsey!) in her hair!

On our way to dinner, Caroline took one of her necklaces off and wrapped it around her head.

Mark was driving us to dinner and realized he had forgotten his glasses...so he borrowed mine.

Mark took Caroline shoe shopping and they came home with these...her feet are big but these shoes make them look HUGE!

Nothing like a heat wave!!!

We went to a birthday pool party during the weekend and almost couldn't stand to swim in the bath temperature water!!! (So sad)

We headed to my sister's in Alabama for a few days. I posted this earlier but felt you all should see it again...this is Josh...he filled up the goggles with water, then put them on and asked me to take his picture! :)

Cousin love at Moes!

Georgie, my sister's dog, came and snuggled with me on my last morning there. She is a precious dog...Caroline joined the photo just cuz...

This is one of my favorite pictures...sleeping snuggles from two very tired, very giggly girls.

Hope your week has been worthy of some awesome photos!

InstaFriday

Linking up with Jeannett via The Pleated Poppy for what I hope is a fun time. I usually take a lot of pictures with my phone so I thought this would be a great way to showcase them. I do have a confession though...I don't have an iphone (yeah, I know, "If you don't have an iphone, you don't have an iphone") so I don't have Instagram....I have a fake version of it... :) Whew...I feel better getting that off my chest...now on with it!

While I was still at mom and dad's, the kids went back and forth spending the night at mom and dad's, Anonymous' house or Bobby and Sarah's house. When they spent the night with me, I took them to our favorite breakfast place, Eggs Up Grill and they were such great company--not. They stayed on those PSPs the WHOLE time!

We all piled into mom and dad's living room to watch the Women's World Cup finals. We were disappointed but had a blast all together!

These are my angels on the way home from the beach...we leave EARLY so they sleep a while in the car. I thought this one was cute.
On the first day home, they decided they need to survey the ranch and make sure nothing had been tampered with while we were gone. They were heavily armed in case someone was hiding out. :)

This one made me laugh...she could barely walk with all those weapons! They lasted about 15 minutes in the heat wave. They found no breeches in security. :)

Lessons from Kayaking

We have tried something new this year as a family at the beach. Dad decided we all needed to go kayaking(not in the ocean) and we all thought he was crazy. He went without any of us and we were happy to send him. Then, he got Anonymous' husband all excited and he went out and rented two kayaks...for three days...and dad does not let a rented day go to waste.

I went the first day...and it was hard work...really hard work. We couldn't coast...there was no wind to help us and it was HOT!!!! We worked hard...taking the kids up and down the intercoastal waterway. There was no relaxing....believe me, I kept waiting for a boat to come hook me to them and tow me to the dock! :)

The second day, my dad and Mark took the kids out in a new place. The current was MOVING and poor dad and Mark had to paddle most of the way against the current. They were working so hard but getting no where. And they were tired.

Struggling against the current would not be what an expert boater would tell you to do. Now keep in mind, we did not plan this...in order to get out of the water they had to paddle against the current. It was not as much fun the second day as it was the first.

Isn't that like when we struggle against where/what God wants us to do? We fight to do our own thing, and while we struggle, we can't figure out why it is so hard. We have done it before and it was fun...why not this time? We continue on in our own strength and we wonder why we are tired and worn out and not enjoying ourselves. But if we turn back to God, follow Him and trust Him...even in a storm...He is faithful to be with us.

Take Day 3 of Kayaking:

Notice in the top right picture, the storm cloud hovering behind my sister's boat...we thought maybe we shouldn't go...it was dark and a storm was brewing. But dad couldn't let day 3 of rental fees go by without using the boats! So we went...the storm blowing in and the current moving...this time with us. And the report at the end of the trip was how much easier it was moving with the current and having the wind at their backs.

Just like life goes so much more smoothly, even in a potential storm, when we move WITH God and not against Him. He gives us the physical tools we need: the boat, the life jackets, the paddles, the course...and then we must trust Him to provide the rest of what we need...the tide, the current, the wind. And on the days, like day 2, when we might be off course, or we might just be in the middle of one of His lessons, He gives us the strength to make it through to the end, where we can pull ourselves out of the difficult water and find rest on His peaceful shore.

It's Wednesday....linking up with The Pleated Poppy for some accountability in what I wear. This has been a bad week for me...still at my parents at the beach and I have spent most of time in workout clothes or a bathing suit....believe me, neither of those shots should be shared with the public!!!

Never-the-less, here we go!

Yeah...first picture I forgot to move the big flower...sorry! And there is a wreath behind my head that makes my hair look crazy...just a little disclosure before you start.

Favorites from the Fourth!

We had an amazing day...dad and I went on our five mile walk, then we headed to the beach to stake out a place in the sand with our huge, non-user friendly tent, then to Eggs Up for breakfast, home to get the crew (slight detour with a broken washing machine) and then to the beach for a great day. We had an amazing meal, mom passed out presents (because it is her Christmas, after all), we took the yearly photo and then headed off to see fireworks!

Hope you had a great Independence Day too!

Happy 4th of July

Today, July 4th, I am with the most patriotic woman in the world, my mom. This holiday is her Christmas. I photographed just SOME of the red, white and blue stuff she has around her house.

I pray that today, as you celebrate our Independence Day, that you remember to thank a soldier, who helped provide our freedom, that you say a prayer for our nation and its leaders, and that you thank God for the blessings He has bestowed upon this great nation of ours.

Happy Fourth Y'all!

A Cup of Contentment

We live in a fast paced world.

Everyone is on the go, demanding results immediately and complaining if their precious time is wasted "waiting".

And by everyone, I mean me.

I have noticed in my daily life how I want things done NOW. I don't want to wait, I don't want it hanging over my head. I want to check it off my make believe list I made and move on to the next thing that stresses me out. Whew. What a way to live life, huh?

This lack of patience in myself came blaring into my eyesight this week at my mom and dad's. They have a Keurig coffee pot...the one that makes one cup at a time...see below if still confused....

I don't have one of these at my house. I have to make a whole pot of coffee if I want a cup. If I make a whole pot, I have to WAIT on a whole pot. Insert trouble with patience and it is a losing battle for me. So imagine how happy I was when I got here knowing I could have a cup of coffee whenever I wanted one!

You know what I noticed? I quickly, very quickly, became irritated with the Keurig when I had to wait for it to get ready after it turned itself off. Really, Paige? It did not take long for my new normal to produce the same impatient results.

Know what that tells me? I have a problem. I cannot even find the joy in the little things in life. Maybe that is too big of a crime to accuse myself of...I do find much joy in watching my kids play with cousins, hearing them laugh, getting to curl up and watch a movie with my mom (while we drink coffee :) ), going on walks with my dad REALLY early in the morning...

But I also see that I am a "results now" person. I want instant gratification. I could blame this one on the society in which I live, but if I am going to be honest, it really is an issue with not being content with what I have.

Or going bigger, not being content with all that the Lord has blessed me with.

Ouch! But so true...

I am praying as I spend time here at the beach that I will remember, and be thankful for, all of the wonderful people and things I have in my life.

As the Fourth of July gets closer, it is not lost on me the sacrifices that many made to give me the freedoms I often take for granted. I want to not only remember that, but honor that by not being selfish, self serving or arrogant in what I think I might deserve.

Oh, to be content in Jesus, no matter how long I have to wait for my coffee to brew. Fill my cup Lord with all that reflects and honors you.
