Who Doesn't Love 20 Questions?

20 Questions for a New Year’s Eve Reflection

I saw this on one of my twitter followers' feeds and decided to join in.  If you want to participate, here is the link from The Simple Mom.  These were some tough questions!!!!!!!!!!

1. What was the single best thing that happened this past year?

The single best thing that happened this past year was probably the fun vacation we took as a family to Disney World.  One thing that made it so much fun was the fact that my parents and one of my sisters and her daughter were there too.  I am a people person, so sharing this with lots of people I love was THE BEST!

2. What was the single most challenging thing that happened?

The single most challenging thing this year was probably the struggle we had with Mark's health (which I haven't really talked about on here) from September 11-present day!  We have spent many hours at the doctor, in the hospital and up worrying.  God has been good, but it has been hard.

3. What was an unexpected joy this past year?

An unexpected joy was probably coaching Will's basketball team.  I would have never thought I would enjoy it...and even as stressful as it was, I did enjoy it (so much so that I am doing it again).  And really, I am the assistant...which is probably why I like it.  :)

 4. What was an unexpected obstacle?

An unexpected obstacle would probably be when the dermatologist told me the spot on my nose that she thought was just a skin tag was cancer.  It was unexpected, completely, but it was fine too.  I have a picture of it, but decided not to post!  You are welcome!

5. Pick three words to describe 2012.

Love, perseverance, faith

6. Pick three words your spouse would use to describe your 2012—don’t ask them; guess based on how you think your spouse sees you. (If you’re not married, have fun guessing the answers from other friends and family, or just skip this question.)

 Stressful, busy, unexpected

7. Pick three words your spouse would use to describe their 2012—again, without asking.

Successful, surprising, scary

8. What were the best books you read this year?

Oh man, too many to list them all...I am a suspense, military kinda girl...so anything along those lines works for me in terms of fiction reads.

Jesus Calling is still my favorite devotional this year...

 9. With whom were your most valuable relationships?

My most valuable relationships were with my husband and kids, my family and my sweet friend Lynn!

10. What was your biggest personal change from January to December of this past year?

My biggest personal change would probably be learning to keep my mouth shut more.  Now, for those that know me well, you know I didn't go silent...I might die if that happened.  But I tried really hard to be more positive and if I couldn't be, then I tried SUPER hard to be quiet.

 11. In what way(s) did you grow emotionally?

I learned that I am responsible only for my actions, words and deeds and no one else's.  I cannot control another person's reaction to me, but I can control how I react.

 12. In what way(s) did you grow spiritually?

Life is not about me...never has been and never will be.  Being in the center of God's will is all this life is about...Sure, I struggle with this, but realizing it and focusing on it has changed me.

 13. In what way(s) did you grow physically?

I exercise more, I try to eat better and I have lost some unwanted pounds....I also turned 40 (yikes!)

 14. In what way(s) did you grow in your relationships with others?

I am more honest with those I am closest to and I am a little more guarded with what I share with those I barely know.

 15. What was the most enjoyable part of your work (both professionally and at home)?

The most enjoyable part of my work was being able to teach my son...I didn't know that joy would continue this year as I was promoted to the fourth grade also!  It was also fun finally having both kids in the same school with me!

 16. What was the most challenging part of your work (both professionally and at home)?

The most challenging part of my work was being moved from third grade to fourth grade (yes, it was a joy and a challenge).

 17. What was your single biggest time waster in your life this past year?

Complaining- I am really good at it---that might be part of the problem!

 18. What was the best way you used your time this past year?

Spending time talking to, listening to and hanging out with my kids.

 19. What was biggest thing you learned this past year?

Life is unexpected and hard.  But I serve a God who is not surprised by any of it.  That makes it possible to face anything!

20. Create a phrase or statement that describes 2013 for you.

JOY IN ALL THINGS --- I want to focus on the good in all things I face this year.  The Joy of the Lord is my strength and I want to exemplify that!

Enjoy this last day of 2012 and many blessings to you in 2013!!!!

InstaFriday

life rearranged

Linking up with jeannett  with this weeks phone pics. i’m bucknerfamily on instagram if you want to join me!

It was free topping Tuesday at our local Fro-Yo place.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Our administrators at school entertained the kids at our final school assembly before we were out for break!  The kids voted during our fall fundraiser and the winner was to see them as rockers!!! :)

It was WAY passed time for a haircut for Will...we had fun with his hair before we cut it (trimmed it really)...he was not happy with a haircut...He wouldn't let me take an "after" picture!

It was hair day for me too....I sat under a weird dryer but I liked the end result!  I had to take a picture for my hairdresser...she wanted to show it to someone else...
Hanging out with friends at a basketball game...supporting our friends who killed the team they played!  We had to entertain ourselves...crazy kids!

As we mindlessly wander through the posts on Lindsey's blog today, let us remember to pray for the people of Newtown, CT.  As a mom and a teacher, my heart hurts knowing what each faculty member went through and knowing that if they had their own children in that school, they were SO torn!  They totally did their jobs...that's what we do, but oh the agony.  And really, oh the agony even if there were no personal children of their own.  Let's just never forget them!

Today is our last day (and it's only a half day) before the holidays...it is crazy around here.  My kids in my class are SO ready to be out and my own two children have been ready since Thanksgiving!!!!  Oh please let 11:50 get here quickly!!!!

I need new skinny jeans...anyone have great ones...that are comfy but don't stretch during the day so they look like mom jeans tucked into tall boots?  :)  That is what happened above!

Game Day---that is our team sweatshirt.  I almost had 14 heart attacks that game--proof a woman my age should not coach 9 and 10 year old boys!!!!
Sweatshirt: locally made (let me know if you want one...haha)
Jeggings: local boutique
Boots: Madden girl

Tee and pink shirt: LOFT
Jeans: Rock Revival
Boots: Local Boutique
Rain Coat: LOFT

Christmas Party day at school!!!!!  Whoop Whoop!  We had our party yesterday because today is just a half day and we certainly cannot fit a party into a half day when we have a chorus program to attend, a cookie swap  to participate in and lunch to eat all before 11:50!

That's my week in a nutshell!!!  Hug your kids--pass joy to others and smile at a stranger.  It might be the only nice thing they receive.  (and remember that it is totally OK to look cute while you do all of the above--LOL)!!!!

His Life for Mine

It becomes harder and harder to keep my kids focused on what the most important thing is about Christmas. They are inundated with toy commercials and movies all about the "getting" this time of year. I work so hard to remind them that our focus should be the birth of a perfect, holy babe and what that birth means to us.
And sometimes, I need to remind myself. When I get caught up in the gift buying, the gift wrapping, the parties and the stress of this season, I find I need to step back and ponder the importance of that tiny baby born in a barn. God reminded me of this the other day and then laid this poem on my heart.

BORN
He ruled beside His Father, watched the world come to be
Saw man made in His image, saw man fall to Satan's plea.

He watched Job suffer heartache and yet never turn away
He watched as His Chosen people seemed to always stray.

He stood beside young David as he fought the Giant in his life.
And he stood beside him still when he ordered death and pain and strife.

He spoke throughout the ages of His love for all mankind.
He jealousy pursued us while we fell for gods of other kinds.

Then His father said, "My Son the time has come for you to go.
They need a humble, honest Savior from whom grace and mercy flow."

So on a cold, dark night on a stable's hard, damp floor.
A frightened young girl opened the path to Heaven's door.

A baby boy so small and helpless yet full of regal majesty,
Came from Heaven to save the earth-He was born to die for me.

May we all keep our focus where it should be...

Merry Christmas!

Airborne All the Way!

Huah! (pronounced Hoo-uhhh for all you non-military readers).

I have the most awesome heritage....I was blessed enough to be raised in a military family.  We moved more times than I can remember and we lived all over the place.  I got the privilege of going back to the army base where I lived when I graduated from high school.  This is me in front of my old house.

I was able to visit this house because my oldest sister now lives on this same base, just right around the corner from my old house.  Her house is laid out like mine was and let me tell you---it was WEIRD being back in that house...good, but weird.

Today is a big day because my awesome brother in law, Mike, is taking over the 82nd Airborne Aviation Brigade.  As if that wasn't cool enough, it is the same unit my dad commanded once (only it was a battalion then, not a brigade) when I was in elementary and middle school.   Mike has dedicated his life to the service of his country and I am honored to call him family.    Today is the day he takes over the brigade and I want to wish him well!

I am proud of you Mike and in Seigle family tradition--I salute you!!!

Me with my balloon bunch.  The card said, "Thank you for 40 years of color you have added to our lives."
